Ponds and dogs – they most certainly go hand-in-hand (or paw?)! Our team loves your canines friends. We even keep treats in our trucks for them! While the majority of our interactions are great, there are some circumstances involving your pet which we all need to be mindful of during the season.
If your dog often runs loose on your property, please try to make sure it does jump in the pond during or immediately after treatment. The products we use will not hurt your dog in any way, but any submerged weed treatments may be less effective. The water must be left undisturbed for at least 24 hours for a successful treatment, which is one reason why the product has restrictions. We indicate our submerged weed treatments with a red flag down at your pond.
Our pond dye is another reason to keep your furry friend away from the water during/shortly after treatment. There have been instances where a dog is jumping in and coming out BLUE from the pond dye! If your dog happens to jump in right where the dye was applied and before it has had the chance to spread, it can be concentrated enough to do some staining. With it being concentrated dye, there is not really a direct way to remove the dye other than being patient and waiting for it to fade on its own.
We are always happy to see a friendly dog on your property, but we will not try to approach an aggressive dog – even if it’s a small dog – in order to treat a pond. If you or your neighbors have an aggressive or nervous dog that goes outside during the day, please let our office know so we can make a plan to keep our technicians safe. The best (and easiest) thing to do is to keep your dog inside on your scheduled treatment day – (if you are unsure of “your day” call and ask us!) That way we can effectively treat your pond and ensure safety of both your dog and our technicians.
