Though pond maintenance practically comes to a halt due to winter’s cold temperatures in the Midwest, this time of year is perfect to do some sprucing up!
One of the best times to remove small brush and shrubs from around your pond is during the winter. The lack of leaves and branches allow for an easier time with cutting down the brush. As long as there is still a live layer within the stump, you can kill the remaining portion of the plant via glyphosate. Rather than spray, you will want to take a cheap paint brush and spread the chemical over the cut portion of the plant.
Need to add more sand to the pond? Lay down sand over top of the ice in the desired areas. Once the ice melts, the sand will drop down! Adding sand has never been easier!
